Georgia Varlan
University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Georgia Varlan is a rising senior at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She is a Robert R. Neyland Scholar in the Chancellor’s Honors Program and is majoring in College Scholars, an interdisciplinary honors major, with a focus on East Asian History and Political Economy. Georgia has spent two summers studying and teaching in China and plans to return there this fall to pursue research on her senior thesis. During her sophomore year, she spent a semester interning at the White House for the President's National Economic Council, and has also interned for former US Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. Georgia is involved with many campus activities at UT, including the Howard Baker Center for Public Policy, Student Alumni Associates, and Chi Omega Fraternity. After graduating in May 2009, she plans to attend law school and hopes to one day work in Washington, D.C. in the areas of international trade and economic public policy.
